RTX 3060 Ti and GTA 6: Long-Life Mainstream Against Console Specs

A mainstream card that never really left

Released in 2020 with 8 GB and placed in the mainstream tier by our catalogue, the RTX 3060 Ti has had an unusually long life. It is the kind of card that was bought for one game and is still installed for another, which makes it the most common realistic question in this section: not should I buy it, but does the machine I already have matter. The answer has to be built carefully, because the comparison everyone reaches for is a bad one.

A teraflops figure is not a result

Sony publishes the PlayStation 5 GPU at 10.28 TFLOPS, alongside 16 GB of GDDR6 unified memory and an 825 GB custom NVMe drive. Those numbers describe a machine whose contents are known and fixed, in a library of titles tuned against exactly that configuration for years. A desktop card of the same vintage or a year older cannot be set against that figure like a ruler, because the console number assumes the rest of the console: the memory a game is permitted to hold, the storage bandwidth it may stream at, and the engine work spent on that single target.

Anyone who tells you a desktop card is "equivalent" to a PS5 on the strength of a compute rating is describing two different machines as if they were one. We are not going to repeat that, and we cannot correct it with a GTA 6 number either, because no PC build of the game exists to measure.

What Rockstar has and has not said

The confirmed position is short: GTA 6 releases 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been announced, and no system requirements have been published for any platform. Files advertised as GTA 6 downloads today are not the game in any packaging, which is worth knowing before any hardware decision gets made around them.

What remains is projection, and projections should be run rather than asserted. The FPS estimator will take your processor and graphics card together and show its working, since a card of this generation is as likely to be limited by the CPU beside it as by itself.
