GTA 6 System Requirements: No Official List Exists Yet

Rockstar has published no GTA 6 system requirements. There is no PC version to specify; here is what console owners need and what our honest PC projection is.

GTA6Download EditorialPublished Updated How we source this

Rockstar has published no GTA 6 system requirements for any platform, and it cannot publish PC requirements because it has not announced a PC version. What a buyer can verify today is much narrower than the spec tables circulating online: a current-generation PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series console, enough free storage for a large pre-load, and a working account with a pre-order attached to it.

This page exists because most "GTA 6 requirements" articles are guessing. Below we separate what is verifiable from what is projected, show the reasoning behind our projection, and label every estimate as an estimate.

What is actually verifiable right now

Rockstar's official GTA VI page lists the release as 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. From that single fact you can derive real requirements:

  • A PS5 or an Xbox Series X or Series S. Older consoles cannot run it; there is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and cross-generation support has not been announced.
  • For PlayStation 5 buyers, a disc drive is not required for the game — and it is not sufficient either, since launch physical editions ship a download code rather than a disc.
  • Free storage the game can actually install into. No file size has been announced; we cover planning for that separately in GTA 6 storage requirements.
  • An account in the same region as your purchase, with the entitlement on that account. This is an availability requirement as much as a technical one, and it causes more launch-day failures than hardware does.
  • A download connection you can leave running from 12 November 2026, when reported pre-loading begins for pre-order customers.

That is the full list of things we can state without speculation. Everything else people quote — target framerates, texture budgets, minimum GPU — has not come from Rockstar.

The performance claims you will see elsewhere

Two numbers dominate search results, and neither is a published spec.

The first is a 30 fps lock on consoles. It traces to expectations voiced by commentators and former staff in interviews, not to any published spec — Rockstar has stated no launch frame-rate or resolution target for any console. "Targeting 30 fps" and "confirmed 30 fps" are different statements, and only the first has any basis.

The second is the map size, which does have a traceable origin: Polygon, writing on 27 August 2026, reported that GTA 6's world is described as roughly three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's, sourced to developer remarks in a New York Times preview. That is a real, attributed statement about scope — and it is the single most useful piece of hardware-relevant information available, because dense, walkable, streamed urban space is what stresses storage bandwidth, memory and CPU more than anything else in a game.

Our PC projection, and exactly how we got it

This is an estimate, not a requirement list. It is our reasoning, published so you can check the logic rather than trust the numbers. The method: take the class of hardware Rockstar is building for — current consoles are console-class machines with roughly 16 GB of unified memory and NVMe-class storage — and translate that to the PC market, then add the customary PC headroom for the settings consoles do not have to manage. Because a Rockstar PC port historically arrives later than the console release with higher ceilings, this projection should drift upward before it is ever official.

| Tier | Our projection (not official) | Why we think this | | --- | --- | --- | | Likely minimum | A recent 6-core CPU, 16 GB RAM, a GPU with 8 GB VRAM, SSD, Windows 10/11 64-bit | Unified-memory consoles set the floor; an open dense city needs memory bandwidth and an SSD to stream without stutter | | Likely recommended | An 8-core-class CPU, 32 GB RAM, a GPU with 12 GB VRAM, NVMe SSD | The city, crowd density and draw distance described for Leonida are CPU- and VRAM-hungry, and PC builds usually add higher-resolution texture budgets | | Likely high-refresh / 4K | A current high-end GPU with 16 GB VRAM or more, fast NVMe, strong single-core CPU | Nothing announced supports 4K or 60 fps targets, so anyone promising that tier today is extrapolating, as we are |

Treat a spec table you cannot attribute to Rockstar as somebody else's projection. Ours will be wrong in detail; the point is to show the reasoning instead of hiding it. When requirements do exist, they will arrive with the PC announcement itself, and our system requirements hub is written to be updated at that moment.

What to do while requirements do not exist

If you play on console. Nothing to benchmark. Your only hardware decision is storage, and your only real launch-week risk is a full drive, a mismatched account, or a slow connection during the pre-load. Our pre-load and installation guide walks through both platforms.

If you are building or buying a PC for this game. The rational move is to build for games that exist now and to treat GTA 6 as a reason to prioritise the components that always age badly first: storage capacity and bandwidth, system memory, and a CPU with strong single-core performance. Spending against an unannounced spec sheet is how people buy the wrong GPU.

If you already own a good PC. Accept the uncomfortable likelihood: history suggests the wait is measured in months after console launch at best, and there is no announced window to hold anyone to. Mashable's August 2026 explainer lands in the same place — console-only at launch, PC unannounced.

Our two hardware tools are honest about this limitation and worth using anyway: Can I run GTA 6 grades your parts against the projection above and says so on-screen, and the FPS estimator labels every figure it produces as an estimate rather than a benchmark. There are no GTA 6 benchmarks, on any platform, because no reviewer has played a release build.
