Where to Buy GTA 6: Every Official Store, Edition and Price

Buy GTA 6 only from PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar's store or authorised retail boxes. Standard is $79.99, Ultimate $99.99, out 19 November 2026.

GTA 6 can be pre-ordered right now from exactly four kinds of place: the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, Rockstar's own store, and authorised physical retail — and since 25 June 2026 the only two editions on official storefronts are Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99 in the US, both releasing 19 November 2026.

Anything selling "GTA 6 download" outside those channels is not a store. It is a scam wearing a checkout page. Below is what is actually on sale, where it is legitimately sold, and the three purchase decisions that will cost people real money this launch.

What is officially for sale

Prices below are the US listings visible on the PlayStation Store's GTA VI page as of September 2026. Regional pricing differs, and in the UK coverage from BBC News put the tiers around £70 and £90.

| Edition | US price | What you get | Platform at launch | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Standard | $79.99 | The game. No special launch content is listed for this tier. | PS5 and Xbox Series consoles | | Ultimate | $99.99 | The game plus additional in-game content — listings describe extras such as clothing, tattoos, vehicles, weapons and bonus in-game items. | PS5 and Xbox Series consoles |

Read that table carefully, because the important thing is what is not there. Neither tier is listed as buying earlier access, and Rockstar's editions page presents them as content tiers rather than access tiers. If your reason for considering the $20 upgrade is that it starts early, the published materials do not support that.

There is no PC edition, because there is no announced PC version. If you are shopping for a Windows copy today, the correct conclusion is that the product does not exist yet — see GTA 6 on PC: what is confirmed and what is not.

Digital: two accounts decide everything

Digital pre-orders are the cleanest route, because the purchase attaches to the account you already use.

  • PlayStation Store — the console-native listing for PS5, with the two editions live since pre-orders opened. Buying here means the entitlement appears in your library and the pre-load will surface on that console automatically once it opens.
  • Microsoft Store / Xbox — the equivalent for Xbox Series X and Series S, including the PC-facing storefront, which currently lists the console release only.
  • Rockstar Store — Rockstar's own shop page for GTA VI. Useful for understanding exactly how Rockstar frames the editions, though a big-game purchase still resolves to a console platform licence rather than a "Rockstar launcher download" for this title.

The two account mistakes that generate launch-week misery are boring and constant. The first is buying on a different account than the one you play on — a shared family account, an old region account, a work email. Digital console licences are per-account and per-region. The second is buying a regional code because it was cheaper: a PlayStation or Xbox code purchased for another region frequently will not redeem, and refunding an unredeemable third-party code is slow at best.

Physical: you are buying a code in a box

This is the change most buyers do not expect. Rockstar confirmed for launch that physical editions are packaging containing a download code, with no disc inside, as reported by Kotaku and explained by BBC News; the announcement drew enough backlash that Rockstar publicly responded to it, and some retailers chose not to stock the boxed version at all.

Consequences worth pricing into your decision:

  • The box cannot be installed, resold, lent or borrowed. Its value ends when you type the code in.
  • The code is the only copy of your purchase. Photograph it, and keep the packaging until the entitlement appears in your account library.
  • If the code is scratched and unredemptionable, your recourse is the retailer, not Rockstar, and consoles do not accept a physical disc as a licence fallback here, because there is no disc.
  • Store credit is not a licence. A receipt entitles you to a refund under that shop's policy, not to a copy of the game if your account goes down.

For most buyers the digital tier is the lower-risk purchase. Choose the boxed code if you want a receipt, a collector's package, or a gift someone else can redeem on their own account.

Where not to buy

  • Any site offering the game before 19 November 2026 for download, whatever it charges. See How to avoid GTA 6 download scams for the documented malware campaigns attached to those pages.
  • Discount key marketplaces. Rock-bottom "GTA 6 code" listings on third-party key resellers are the classic route to region-locked, revoked or fraudulently purchased codes. There is also no PC product to sell.
  • "Account" sales — a cheap "PSN account with GTA 6 installed." Console accounts are not transferable in this way, the original owner can reclaim them, and buying one puts your payment details on somebody else's profile.
  • Pre-order "generators", free-copy quizzes and survey walls — the reward is never a game, and the harvest is your credentials or your card details.

Three decisions that save money

Which edition. Buy Standard unless the Ultimate extras specifically interest you. $20 for cosmetics and additional in-game items is a preference, not a head start, and Rockstar has not published an early-access tier.

When. Pre-orders have been open since 25 June 2026 and consoles' digital pre-order policies generally permit cancellation before release, so the usual "reserve a copy" urgency argument does not apply to digital buyers. Check the cancellation terms of the specific store before assuming. The genuine deadline is the pre-load window in the week before launch, after which download congestion makes day-one installs slower — see the installation guide.

How much storage. Clearance is the practical prerequisite. We explain how to size up your drive, and why the "150 GB" numbers circulating are estimates rather than official figures, in GTA 6 storage requirements.
